Teeth Whitening in Turkey

The beauty and whiteness of the teeth has become an integral part of beauty in general, as it complements the beauty of the face and gives a bright and cheerful appearance.

Where the discoloration of the teeth, especially the front teeth, is one of the most important reasons that push people to seek dental treatment, and many patients with natural-colored teeth ask for their teeth to be whitened, as the cosmetic aspect has become important for most people of all ages.

Teeth whitening:

It is aimed to get rid of dental pigmentation in addition to giving a more white and bright color to the tooth by applying chemicals that oxidize the pigmentation.

Bleaching materials, which are derivatives of hydrogen peroxide, reach the discolored dental tissues, as the material enters the organic mold due to its low molecular weight, which allows the interaction between the active ingredient and the colored particles to occur and remove them through the oxidation of organic pigments.

Bleaching techniques are categorized according to their application to live or non-living (pulpectomy) teeth, or based on their in-clinic or out-of-clinic applications.

 Non-living teeth whitening (pulpectomy):

As it is possible for these teeth to become discolored as a result of trauma before endodontic treatment, disintegration of the remaining pulp tissue after treatment, or the filling materials and cements applied during treatment.

First: The whitening technique inside the clinic:

Here, hydrogen peroxide at a concentration of 30-35% is used in the form of a gel or paste for 30 minutes without applying heat.

Second: Continuous bleaching technique:

Here, sodium perborate is used in this method, despite its slow effectiveness, but it is very safe. A sufficient amount of this substance is mixed with a drop of physiological serum or local anesthetic to obtain a creamy paste and then the substance is applied within the tooth (the pulp chamber), and finally a temporary filling is placed with an airtight seal secured.

Sodium perborate is replaced weekly for several times until the desired color is reached, after the pulp chamber is washed and filled with a paste of calcium hydrate with physiological serum to reduce the possibility of absorption at the neck of the tooth, then the doctor seals the preparation using a temporary filling, and leaves calcium hydrate for two weeks.

Finally, he removes the dressing (calcium hydrochloride) and temporary filling and places the final cosmetic restoration.

It is possible to use carbamide peroxide 10% as an alternative to sodium perborate due to the high safety field that this substance provides.

Live teeth whitening:

Which can be stained due to colored foods and drinks such as coffee, or due to smoking and other reasons.

First: The whitening technique inside the clinic:

First, the lip and gums are protected, and then bleaching material is applied in the form of pastes or gels, most of which contain 30-35% hydrogen peroxide.

The use of light to activate the reaction does not improve the result, but its use to generate heat which can speed up the oxidation reaction, and on the other hand, it causes the tooth to dry out more, and this increases sensitivity and the occurrence of immediate bleaching.

Heat can be dispensed with to stimulate the bleaching material by moving it on the surface of the tooth with a cotton swab, and thus we get the same result without damage to the surrounding tissues.

As for the use of laser, it plays the role of light itself in accelerating the reaction, and its use is not without concern because of the possibility of its impact on the dental and pulp tissues.

Features of this technology:

1- Under the complete control of the physician.

2- The gum tissues are protected.

3- Faster.

As for its negatives:

1- Excess cost.

2- You may need more than one session.

3- The possibility of an allergic reaction after treatment.

Second: The bleaching technique outside the clinic (home bleaching):

Here, a dental impression is taken and sent to the laboratory to make special molds in which the bleaching material is placed and then applied to the teeth for a certain period.

The time of application is determined based on the type of material used and the nature of the patient’s life. It is preferable to apply the mold at night and once before going to sleep, and in the morning the patient cleans his/her teeth with a brush and water.

The duration of treatment ranges from one to two weeks, and in some cases, it can last for several months.

It is preferable to whiten each dental arch separately and start with the upper jaw, and this allows the lower jaw to be used as a guide for comparison.

And when any of the side effects occur, such as dental sensitivity or irritation of the gums, the patient must stop the treatment and refer to the doctor.

Technical features:

1- Use a low concentration of bleach.

2- Ease of application.

3- Simple side effects (allergic reactions).

4- Less expensive.

As for its negatives:

1- It depends on the cooperation of the patient.

2- It takes a long time.
